Empowering students. Supporting surgeons. Advancing surgery
RISE is a student‑led, not‑for‑profit organisation dedicated to supporting medical student engagement in surgery through mentorship, research, and education. Our mission is to create accessible, structured pathways that enable students to explore surgical careers, develop academic capability, and contribute meaningfully to the surgical community.
Through its research arm, RISE supports students at all stages of experience to participate in surgical research. Each project is guided by experienced academic surgeons and supported by a dedicated research liaison, ensuring students are mentored through the research process while providing surgeons with reliable, well‑supported student collaborators.
Through its education arm, RISE works in partnership with key stakeholders to design and deliver structured surgical education that complements university curricula. These initiatives aim to strengthen foundational knowledge, develop practical and academic skills, and support students as they navigate the early stages of surgical training.
Central to RISE is a strong community of practice. We foster an environment where surgically inclined students can connect, collaborate, and support one another, recognising that collective progress strengthens individual success. By bringing together students, mentors, and educators, RISE builds a culture of shared learning, mentorship, and academic curiosity that benefits both
learners and surgeons alike.
