Meet our newly appointed Education and Publication Officers

Evan Kapasakis – Publications officer

Evan is a first-year medical student with research experience in neuroscience and cardiac labs, giving him a solid foundation in turning complex ideas into clear, accurate writing. He brings a careful editorial eye and a practical, organised approach that helps produce consistent, high-quality publications. With strong communication skills built through tutoring, interviewing, and society work, Evan is committed to creating polished, reliable outputs that showcase and strengthen RISE’s work.

Ziyao Geng – Education Officer

Ziyao is a medical student and data science educator with experience teaching statistical modelling and computational methods across both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the University of Sydney. He enjoys creating supportive learning environments where students build confidence in technical skills that translate directly to clinical and academic contexts. Motivated by the expanding role of big data and AI in improving surgical outcomes, Ziyao is committed to equipping future surgeons with the ability to work effectively with data in both research and practice. Through his role in the RISE Education Team, he aims to develop scalable, learner-centred programs that integrate coding, conceptual understanding, and practical problem-solving to make complex ideas intuitive and relevant. His goal is to enhance data literacy and empower students to contribute meaningfully to advancements in surgical care and patient outcomes.

Daniel Tanti – Education Officer

Daniel is a final-year medical student at Central Clinical School. His interest in surgery began in first year after scrubbing in for a coronary artery bypass graft, and has grown through clinical and research experiences. Recognising how daunting early clinical exposure can be, he aims to help junior students build confidence in key clinical skills and concepts. He is committed to creating practical, well-structured teaching opportunities that inspire learning and enthusiasm for surgery.
